> ‘ONLINE ADVERTISING’ – 3 HOUR WORKSHOP

This workshop will suit you (and your colleagues):

  • if you have a web and/or social media presence;
  • you recognise that off-line advertising can be ineffective and poorly targeted and want to investigate using targeted advertising online (and have some budget to allocate to it);
  • you have one or more objectives (‘conversions’) to achieve, such as more prospective parents and/or students visiting your Admissions pages, more enquiries, more enrolments etc.

(If you are already an advanced user of Online Advertising please contact us before booking.)

The 3 hour Online Advertising workshop will run once each day in each location – from either 0930 to 1230 or from 1330 to 1630. (There will be a 1 hour lunch break for those attending both workshops (‘Online Advertising’ and ‘New Social Media’), lunch can be ordered as part of your booking or you are welcome to make your own arrangements.)

> ONLINE ADVERTISING WORKSHOP – BACKGROUND

Your target audiences (whether prospective parents and students, guidance counsellors, agents, alumni or others) have moved online… have you?

OMTAC_Online_Advertising_Google_AdWords_250_154Probably you have personally… you ‘Google’, book travel, bank, shop, email, check the weather, read and share news and consume entertainment online all the time? (As do your colleagues, friends and family.)

The same is true of everyone you need to interest in your School, College or University… when someone wants to find a School, College or University do they really go to a shop for a copy of a local newspaper or a national magazine or go to the library for a directory? No.

So instead of persisting with spending your promotional budget on ‘hit & miss’ advertising campaigns off-line, consider using online advertising to precisely target your audiences.

Advertising in off-line media, especially print media can be poorly targeted, short-term, catch-all, ineffective, wasteful, hard to track…

Online digital advertising is:

    OMTAC_Online_Advertising_Facebook_Adverts_250_164

  • Much cheaper than you may think (once set up),
  • Highly targeted,
  • Timely,
  • Focused,
  • Customised,
  • Measurable,
  • Cost-effective.

Today there are people looking for the education you provide, they just don’t know to search for your institution by name… online advertising will precisely target them… and you only pay when people actually click through to your web presence and engage with your institution.

There are also people visiting your web and social media presence but not making immediate contact (ie. not ‘converting’), you can also use online advertising to ‘re-market’ and ‘re-target’ them to remind them to request a prospectus or book for your next Open Day or enquire about enrolment etc.

> ONLINE ADVERTISING WORKSHOP – WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

This intensive 3 hour workshop will help you understand why online advertising has numerous advantages over traditional advertising and considerable potential, and show you how to do it.

OMTAC_Online_Advertising_Google_AdWords_Search_Example_MBA_UK_250_153We will introduce three important advertising platforms and explain how each can be used strategically, and cost-effectively, to support your pupil/student recruitment and admissions effort and also other areas too (such as alumni relations, event promotion, facilities rental etc):

  • Google AdWords
  • Facebook Advertising
  • LinkedIn Advertising

In the time available we will give a basic explanation of how each platform operates, including how to set-up an account and to launch trial campaigns.

The workshop will introduce key themes such as:

  • Targeting – deciding who you should target, where and how using key words and phrases and location targeting.
    OMTAC_Online_Advertising_Bing_Adverts_250_160

  • Re-targeting and Re-marketing – bringing visitors back to your website who failed to register or enquire on their first visit.
  • Creating Text and Display Adverts – creating and testing a variety of adverts to increase impact and engagement and maximise the return on investment.
  • Tracking Conversions and Attribution – determining how well the advertising is working and attributing success (between online advertising and other marketing activity online and offline).
  • Analytics – the opportunities to analyse and report on the return on investment (much more accurately than off-line).

> YOUTUBE & VINE WORKSHOP – BACKGROUND

No educational institution should ignore the power and impact of video as a learning and communications medium. Video is engaging and a primary (often preferred) source of information for all generations, especially youth.

The availability of video through ever faster connections to the Internet and the proliferation of connected devices (TV, desktop, laptop and mobile etc) mean that video is not only consumed but created (‘user generated’) by millions of people around the world every day.

YouTube_Logo_300_155Cisco has predicted that by 2016 video will account for over 90% of Internet traffic.

Websites and online multimedia hosting services such as YouTube, Vimeo and Flickr have revolutionised the way video is made and distributed.

Video should be central to your marketing and admissions strategy (and wider communications activity). Schools, Colleges and Universities large and small are experiencing huge success with YouTube particularly, demonstrating the positive impact video can have on their pupil/student recruitment.

YouTube is owned by Google and is the second most popular search engine after Google (with over one trillon viewings). More than one billion people visit YouTube every month and over 100 hours of video are uploaded each minute.

No question, prospective pupils/students, their parents and key influencers are searching for your institution and competitors on YouTube today. What are they finding? When they visit your website how are they engaged by the content?

> YOUTUBE & VINE WORKSHOP – WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

This specialist 3 hour workshop will help you become an authority on why YouTube is so important for marketing, admissions and communications at your institution and teach you how to use the platform for maximum benefit.

The workshop will include information about the enhancements to YouTube recently announced by YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki at Vidcon, such as an enlarged sound library, a higher frame-rate feature, interactive cards, virtual tip-jar “Fan Funding”, “Creator Credits” and the analytics and channel management mobile app “YouTube Creator Studio”.

You will learn:

  • about the impact of YouTube;
  • how brands and individuals are using it successfully to engage millions of people weekly;
  • how other educational institutions are using YouTube to attract and excite prospective pupils/students and parents and tips and techniques for researching and monitoring competitors;
  • about all the free functionality offered by YouTube and how to implement it effectively;
  • YouTube vs Vimeo and other hosting services;
  • YouTube, Google+ and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO);
  • best practice for setting up and naming your YouTube channel (useful revision for those who already have a channel set-up but may not be aware of all the options available);

YouTube_iPad_300_226

  • using advanced channel settings, video editing tools etc;
  • presentation tips for naming, describing, tagging and optimising your videos;
  • strategies for distribution and promotion (including viral, embedding, sharing, bookmarking, websites, blogs, social media (Facebook, Twitter etc), emailshots, PR, linking videos and cross-promotion etc);
  • tips on managing the social dynamic (encouraging interaction, comment, liking and disliking etc);
  • account verification, YouTube partners, monetisation and Multi-Channel Networks (MCNs);
  • YouTube Apps and using mobile devices to manage your YouTube presence;
  • advertising on YouTube;
  • management and oversight of your YouTube presence;

> HOOTSUITE WORKSHOP – BACKGROUND

Some are leading the way… fully embracing the opportunities for learning, pupil/student recruitment and marketing, admissions and alumni relations offered by different Social Media networks, channels and platforms.

The potential for connecting, engaging, enthusing, informing and exciting through social media is huge. But so is the workload it brings.

Hootsuite_Learning_200_235Having set-up your institution’s Social Media presence you must manage it well day-by-day, week-by-week to really succeed online.

> SOCIAL MEDIA UPDATE – 3 HOUR WORKSHOP

This workshop will suit you (and your colleagues):

  • if you have already established a basic social media presence;
  • you are familiar with and using Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn but want to know the latest developments, tips and techniques;
  • you are interested in exploring the potential for newer and alternative social media platforms such as Instagram, Tumblr, Google Plus, Pinterest, Snapchat, Vine etc.

(If you are already an advanced user of Social Media please contact us before booking.)

The 3 hour Social Media Update workshop will run once each day in each location – from either 0930 to 1230 or from 1330 to 1630. (There will be a 1 hour lunch break for those attending both workshops (‘Social Media Update’ and ‘Online Advertising’), lunch can be ordered as part of your booking or you are welcome to make your own arrangements.)

> SOCIAL MEDIA UPDATE WORKSHOP – BACKGROUND

Instagram_250_172Most School, Colleges and Universities are now using social media and professional networks as part of their marketing (pupil/student recruitment), admissions, communications and Alumni Relations activity, with Facebook Pages, Twitter accounts and LinkedIn Groups & Pages.

Social media is important not only for informing and engaging the wider community of existing pupils/students, parents, staff, friends and alumni, but also for promoting the institution, media relations, reputation management, competitor analysis and ‘customer’ service.

Managing existing social media activity is a challenge (consider attending the ‘Hootsuite’ workshop) and requires time and knowhow. Given this it is understandable that recent developments and improved functionality within each platform may be missed or go unused… nevermind keeping up with new platforms and networks, techniques and best practice.

> SOCIAL MEDIA UPDATE WORKSHOP – WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

We have developed this 3 hour workshop with you in mind… to update you on new developments within the main platforms you are already using (such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and also to enable you to review and reflect on new platforms and applications that may be helpful to your marketing, communications, admissions, alumni relations and fundraising and other activities at your institution.

Pinterest_250_171With relevant examples and case studies we will demonstrate how you can exploit new functionality within the main platforms… considering the reasons for the changes, the possible impact on your existing activity and any implications for the future.

We will then explore newer social media platforms and applications to identify how they might be useful to you, for targeting particular audiences (who may not be so engaged by the main platforms) or for particular campaigns, projects or tasks.

We will discuss how other Schools, Colleges and Universities are using alternative platforms and networks and explore best practice, identifying tips and techniques.

We will briefly cover potential benefits, resource requirements, set-up, implementation, promotion and day-to-day management for each social media platform and application, including:

    Snapchat_250_148

  • Instagram
  • Google Plus
  • Tumblr
  • Pinterest
  • Snapchat
  • Vine

We will finish with a overview of new platforms in development and being launched, and a look ahead at what the future holds.
